Every woman's battle with breast cancer is different, yet so similar. The initial shock, the following treatment, mastectomy, reconstructive surgery and so much uncertainty that each and everyone battling breast cancer has to face.
There are no shortcuts on the road to recovery. Initially one is just so grateful to have survived the ordeal that the cosmetic aspect of the healing process becomes a need and a reality much later.
I had a single mastectomy. Despite the fact that I had undergone an unbelievably good reconstruction, it was rather difficult to look at both breasts simultaneously because they looked so different.
Tanya's excitement as she explained to me how she was going to create harmony and unity in the appearance of my breasts was infectious.
Thus began my sessions with Tanya wherein, as she so aptly put it, she was going to reintroduce them to each other : as sisters not identical twins; still belonging to the same family and well suited to each other.
After the first session I was more than satisfied with the results and could have happily stopped here. So each layer hereafter was an absolute bonus.
During all my sessions with Tanya I was treated with much respect, compassion and outmost professionalism...it is here that my journey with cancer terminates...
It will always be a part of my outlook on life and who I am, but I am now ready to move on and embrace my tomorrow...
